In the first trailer, check out the scene where Lucy and the girls are dashing through the supermarket. Take a close look at the shopping cart—it’s labeled Mayflower Market, just like the name of the city the family moved to. Now, about that market symbol—it’s got a pretty close resemblance to the Walmart symbol, don’t you think? It’s like a half sun, while the real Walmart one is more of a full sun. Now onto the names of the new characters, Maxime Le Mal and his super stylish girlfriend Valentina. It’s cool to see how they nod to the origins of the Despicable Me franchise itself. Maxime’s name is totally French, just like Valentina’s, which has those fashion country vibes. And here’s a fun fact: Despicable Me was first cooked up by Mac Guff Studios, a French animation crew gobbled up by Illumination in 2011. Speaking of French connections, the director of Despicable Me 1, 2, and 3, Pierre Coffin, is also a French director. Oh, and guess what? He’s the voice behind those lovably hilarious minions we all know and love.
