Stolen Fight Choreo in the Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer?

by

Not as bad as it looks? Or worse?
Spider-Man vs Flash Thompson wasn’t exactly iconic, but we’re not talking about stealing the choreography of an ENTIRE fight scene here, just a single combo.
More of a “Who’s gonna notice?” kind of thing.

You can’t exactly lay claim to a combo like jab, cross, hook, uppercut. That’s the most common combo in all of martial arts.
Millions of people practice that combo every day, even in cardio kick boxing classes. There’s NOTHING uniquely creative about it.

BUT…

This clip has more layers than an onion.
There are a LOT of ways to block, parry, bob, weave, and slip punches, so it starts to get suspicious when Deadpool uses the exact same evasive combo that Tobey Maguire used as Peter Parker vs Flash Thompson.

You want more layers? #LFG ! I got layers!
The Wolverine vs Deadpool fight scene is shot from the exact same angle AND distance. Heck, even the pace is the same.
If I take footage from the Deadpool 3 trailer and put it on TOP of the Spider-Man 2002 high school fight, it almost looks like someone at Marvel Studios used CGI to change the costumes on Peter Parker and Flash Thompson.
Okay, I think I need to dial it back a little.

Fight choreography is subject to copyright law, and as far as I know the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies are owned by Sony, not Marvel.
We can’t write this off as Deadpool MCU satire when those Spider-Man movies aren’t part of the MCU.
Maybe them Sony lawyers gonna be like, “LFG!”

The weirdest part is that they DID film that part of the Deadpool vs Wolverine fight scene from different angles (they cut to a different angle for the hook punch), but CHOSE to edit it so that it looks like the Flash Thompson vs Spiderman school fight.

On July 26 we’ll find out if there’s dialogue making it a 4th wall break – an intentional copying – or if someone at Marvel Studios pointed to the 2002 Spider-Man school fight and said, “I want exactly that.”

Whoever edited the Deadpool and Wolverine trailer didn’t notice the potentially stolen fight choreography – otherwise they would have avoided teasing the planet with it.
